UAAP Season 76 Championship (UST vs DLSU): Almost Won the Championship

Almost… we almost won the championship. We were that close, but that wasn’t enough.

UST-DLSU’s three game championship series ended with La Salle leaving the arena as the victors. And as a Thomasian, this actually crushed the inside of me. Since this is also my final year at the university, like our shooting guard and captain ball, Jeric Teng, I would like to experience a championship, all those sweet victory parties, all those championship stuff you can buy, and the thought of your school standing high at the top, but I guess we wouldn’t be singing “We are the Champions” tonight.

We lost! And we have to ingest that fact and move on. Let us just get over it and try again next time. Enough with all the hate everyone is giving, all the protest that the referees took away our victory, all the blame we are giving to our fellow Thomasian, Aljon Mariano. The Growling Tigers did their best with all their hearts, just like how we support them with all our spirits. All of us became united for our school, and we stood “One for UST”, so why are we bashing on Mariano just because he had a very off game? Sure he should have passed the ball to Jeric during the last few seconds of the fourth quarter, but what if Jeric also failed that shot? No one can predict what will happen. The game was called a “Do-or-Die” game, so he also did take the chance, either he’ll make it or not. And think about the pressure. If just watching that game made our hearts pound twice as fast, how do you think every player felt while they were on the court? If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t even experience a championship game.

So enough with the hate and let us just keep the unity and the spirit of UST shine with its flame. And even though we lost, I can still GROWL that I’m PROUD to be a THOMASISAN!
