Probably many of us have played the original Pokémon game (Pokémon Red/Blue/Green) from our Game Boys. It was and will always be a part of our childhood. And then there came the Pokémon anime which focuses on a 10-year old boy, Ash Ketchum, and his adorable and everyone’s favorite, Pikachu to go on a journey and become the Pokémon Master and collect all kinds of Pokémon. These opened the eyes of the kids from the 90’s to a new world. And even up until now, the franchise still continues to take kids to an adventure.
(SPOILER ALERT!!!)
(You've been warned!)
“Pokémon: Origins” plotted its story from the original games. Instead of Ash, Red is the protagonist of this anime and just like in the games the hero will have to choose a starting Pokémon in the beginning of the story. The anime only has four episodes which at the last episode, Red became the Pokémon League Champion, fought and capture Mewtwo, and ended up with one last pokemon needed to complete the Pokédex.
When I found out about this anime, I got really excited, because when I was a kid, I love playing Pokémon games on my Game Boy. It was a thrill to know that I’ll get to see an anime version of one of my favorite childhood games (though there was already a Pokémon anime, but it didn’t follow the game’s story). But when I saw how they made Red look like, I was a bit disappointed because of his “good boy” face. I was actually imaging Red as a bit of a “badass” with a face that doesn’t get scared easily, but I still did want to watch it. When I first saw it, I thought to myself that it still only had four episodes and I could easily keep up with it in one night. And then I watched it and I did enjoyed and liked the anime, but when I started with the second episode, I wasn’t pleased when it skipped many events from the story and later found out that it really only had four episodes. I really was hoping that it didn’t fast-forward through many events and had more episodes in it, but watching those four episodes was still a ton of thrill. Plus they did introduce the mega evolution, and how awesome a Mega Charizard is. Blue Flames, Darker Skin, Larger Horns. Just awesome!
This was when I also realized how Ash was a “loser” compared to Red, who took down the Team Rocket, became the League Champion, and completed his Pokédex, while Ash can’t even get to half of the list on his Pokédex. But Ash is still a good kid and still did help a lot of people and Pokémons throughout his journey, so lets give him that. Hehe!
If you are a fan of Pokémon and still haven’t seen this yet, I’ll tell you that it is worth wasting your time on.
