Let's Save Rock and Roll!

For the third time in Philippine History, Fall Out Boy visited and rocked Manila and made our car crashed hearts beat with the sound of the drums.

Fall Out Boy is an American rock band formed in 2001. It consists of Pete Wentz (Bass), Patrick Stump (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Joe Trohman (Lead Guitar), and Andrew Hurley (Drums).

After years of hiatus, Fall Out Boy returned and released their fifth studio album, Save Rock and Roll, which includes their hit singles, My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up), The Phoenix, and Alone Together. They toured around the world for their new album and once again set foot in Manila and performed at Smart Araneta Coliseum last August 8, 2013.

Their return and a new song released made my inside so excited and got filled with joy real quick. And when their album was released here in the Philippines, I just had to have it. For the first time ever, I personally bought a music album, which I had to go from store to store, from mall to mall just to get one trying to find which one already was already selling had their CD on the first day on the said released date.

Upon learning that Manila is part of their concert tour, I promised myself that I have to be there and watch them live. I just had to see them perform before they decide to have another hiatus or retire for good.

I bought a VIP Standing ticket. I had to be in the crowd, while the band plays their song, so it would be easier for me to rock out with them.

At the concert night, I went there with my blockmate but we had different tickets so we enjoyed the event separately. The mosh pit was crowded. I couldn’t get really near the stage. I wouldn’t be able to high five Pete or Patrick. I had to find the right place and had to wait for the right opening to move forward to the stage.

When the moment everyone was waiting, the moment Pete, Patrick, Joe, and Andy came out to the stage, everyone shouted, cheered, chanted, and screamed their names, and of course I was one of those people. Finally, I could see them with my own very eyes. Finally, I breathed the same air as them.

Every song they played, I sang with them. I raised my fist, and then I made a rock sign (hand-horns). I did a lot of head bangs and jumped at my spot. I sang my lungs out, and I got the lyrics to their songs running in my head. I love every song they played, and they even performed my favorites, Sugar, We’re Goin Down, This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race, Dance Dance, Alone Together, and Saturday. I enjoyed every single second of it.

The moment Patrick sang the first line of Saturday, “I’m good to go…”, I knew this would the last song of the night. I gave all the energy that I can muster to rock out to their song. They played twenty songs, but I still feel like that wasn’t enough. I wanted more. Everyone in the crowd wanted more. It was an amazing concert. It was one of the nights that would never forget.

I’m hoping that FOB will return here in Manila, and once again, I’ll make sure that will be rocking out in the crowd once again.
