The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been good at playing with our emotions. They can make us laugh, excite us, have us wondering and craving for more, and of course, they are also good in breaking our hearts.
MCU often has a lighter tone and will get us laughing with its joke, but there were still a lot of moments that would make us grab a tissue to wipe our tears, such as Yondu's death, Tony Stark finding out what really happened to his parents, Steve Roger never getting that dance with Peggy, and Quicksilver's death. But Avengers: Infinity War, probably the biggest crossover event so far, really gave what it could to make sure that we leave the theaters a little more emotionally broken than we were used to.
With that, I would like to share my personal top five most heartbreaking Avengers: Infinity War moments:
(SPOILER ALERT!!!)
(You’ve been warned)
5) I hope they remember you
Before the movie was released, a lot of people were assuming that this would be the last time we would see Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. as Captain America and Iron Man, respectively. A lot of people thought that Infinity War would be the movie to show us the death of Captain America and Iron Man, something the fans will never be ready for.
It’s really difficult to imagine an Avengers movie that doesn’t feature Captain America and Iron Man. That is why during that scene when Thanos took the blade from Stark and pierced it through his body, that very moment, I literally gasped and held my breath. It got me thinking that that was it, that one of their leaders had fallen, that the Avengers will never be same again.
Sure, in the end, Doctor Strange sacrificed the Time Stone, and Stark survived the snapped, but his fate in the fourth Avengers movie that we are yet to see is already troubling to wonder about since Evans had already posted a seemingly retirement tweet. We really may not see them in another MCU movie again after the fourth Avengers movie.
Downey Jr. has been Iron Man for ten years now. I’m still not ready…

4) What more can I lose?
Thor was probably the one who had the heaviest emotions to carry in the movie. His hammer was destroyed, lost an eye, he already lost both his parents, his friends, he had to battle his sister, his home planet was destroyed, and his people that survived Ragnarok were killed at the hands of Thanos, including Loki.
Watching his conversation with Rocket, looking in his eye, and hearing his words, “What more can I lose?” sent chills in my spine. Thor’s emotions had the mixture of rage, grief, pain, suffering, and a thirst for vengeance. What more can you take away from a man that just lost everything?
3) The sun will shine on us again
After Thor: Ragnarok, we had learned how to love Loki even more. He became a savior of Asgard, reconciled and fought alongside his brother, and gave his life to challenge Thanos and save Thor. We've seen him die before, but this time, it seemed that he ran out of tricks under his sleeves.
Geez! It was just the opening act and it already demonstrated how heavy this movie was going to crush down on my feelings. The victory and joy we had at the end of Thor: Ragnarok was erased just as soon as movie started, seeing that Thor and the Asgardians had fallen, Hulk got beaten up, and Loki, just recently and finally in great terms with his brother, just had to make one of the biggest sacrifice in the movie, and die at the hands of Thanos.
Loki died an Asgardian and an Avenger.
2) I don’t feel so good…
Spider-man is my favorite superhero of all time, and was one of the most useful character in the movie. Seeing your favorite character die will always be a cut to the heart.
I was murmuring, "No... no... no..." while watching Peter scared, in a panic mode, and begging for help from his mentor. After all the superhero fights and works he did, all the strengths, the powers, and abilities he had, he was still a kid, a young teenage kid that was terrified and wanting to be saved from something he couldn't understand. He was pleading and apologizing to Stark.
And another thing, knowing Stark, he would blame himself for Peter's death, and the death of everyone he worked so hard to protect.

1) I am Groot
Not a lot of duos in the MCU can actually match Rocket and Groot’s relationship. In Guardians of the Galaxy, we saw how Groot was like Rocket’s bodyguard, always protecting him, even going as far as to sacrificing himself to save the whole team. But in Vol. 2, their roles were reversed, Rocket became Groot’s protector.
Watching the scene where Groot’s body turned to dust, really broke my heart. He was in front Rocket, he was trying to call for him. Rocket already lost him once, and seeing him walked towards Groot’s disappearing body with that cry in his voice, was already too much to handle. But the reason why this is number one on my list was when James Gunn gave the translation of Groot’s final words. Groot said, “Dad”. He called Rocket "Dad". He saw Rocket as his father. Rocket didn't just lose a friend, he lost a son.
To add more emotional pain to this, Rocket hasn't found out yet that his friends... the guardians... the people he considers his family... all of them died. He's the only one left.

I'm pretty sure, there will be more heart-crushing and emotionally draining moments in the upcoming Avengers movie next year. So which part from the film made you cry the most?
