2013, Fall Out Boy came back
from a three year hiatus, released a new album, Save Rock and Roll, and toured
around the world again, which I actually was a part of because I came to see
them in their concert here at Manila (a great night for me).
Now, they had recorded and released a new eight-song EP, with rock artist and producer, Ryan Adams. The EP was titled “PAX AM Days” which is a reference to Ryan Adams’ record label “PAX AM”. PAX AM Days focuses on punk rock and hardcore punk genre, which is quite different from their “Save Rock and Roll” album.
When I first listen to one of its song, “Love, Sex, Death”, I was amazed and I went like, “WOW!” It felt like I was listening to those great rock hits from the 80’s. I quickly thought of artists like Sex Pistols, Joan Jett, Guns N’ Roses, Skid Row, AD/CD, etc. And coincidentally, I was in the mood of playing 80’s hits that time because I just heard some from the radio while I was driving. I really like the song, but I was disappointed when I found out that the songs were only around a minute and a half long and the whole EP’s length lasts for just about 13 minutes. I wish they made the songs a bit longer, three minutes for each would do. But still I like the whole EP.
People criticized “Save Rock and Roll” because they thought it wasn’t rock enough like how they want it and they feel that Fall Out Boy isn’t actually saving Rock and Roll with the album. But with PAX AM Days, I think they wouldn’t have any contradiction with FOB saving rock and roll. Plus why can’t they see how great a band is if they can switch from one style of music to another, I mean from Punk to Pop to 80’s style of Rock, that’s just awesome, right?
Well, if you are a fan of Fall Out Boy, PAX AM Days is now available at iTunes. And if you’re not a fan, try listening to their songs, you just might like them. Trust me, you’ll thank me later. \m/
