I love receiving free stuff, especially if I
like what I’m getting.
In less than a month I managed to expand my
library by getting free comic books. I know I’m not the biggest comic book fan,
and I’m not an avid reader, but it just brings me so much joy having more items
in my “collection”.
I wouldn’t really consider myself as a comic
book collector, although I’m trying to collect and finish the Ultimate Spider-man (The Peter Parker
one, not the Miles Morales one) storyline, and every time I see a volume of it
that I haven’t already owned, I will immediately grab the copy and rush to the
cashier to buy it. I currently have sixteen volumes out of I think
thirty-seven. I guess I still have a long way to go.
I also have other comics such as X-Men Noir, Trese, Punisher, and Black Widow. Some of them I also did buy
and some were given to me by my friends.
Anyway, in less than a month, I had two
opportunities to get free comic books. One one at the Batcon event the other was last June 15.
During the Batcon event, one booth gave away free comic books, and if I
remember it correctly, I hope I do, it was Comic
Odyssey, one of the leading comic book stores here in the country. People
gathered at the booth, getting all the free comic books that interests them.
And I was able to get about twenty books that night.
The other one, last June 15, that was a
Thursday, I discovered that there was a place near our area that had given out
free comics the day before. I immediately went there to check it out, but not a
single free comic book was there. I thought they ran out of comics and it was
just a one-time thing. Then I had a conversation with the people from the warehouse
where the comics are being kept and some residents. They told me that they do
not have the freedom to give away the comics, but if I really want some, they
told me that I should ask the man in-charged, the caretaker of the comics.
After a while, I met the man in-charged, he
was a nice person and he let me in the warehouse. I saw boxes full of comics
stored on top of each other. It was a paradise for someone who loves comics. He
allowed me to get whatever comics I want, he didn’t even gave me a limit on how
many I could take home, so I took the blessing and dug in, picking anything
that I like and might interest me.
When I realized that I couldn’t carry any
more comics, I decided to stop. I ask the caretaker if it’s okay if I return
again some other time, and he’s alright with it.
I was able to bring home two plastic bags,
each full of comics.
I know that my library is probably just a
dwarf compared to other collectors’, but it still pleases me, and I’m looking
forward to adding more comic books to it.
Well, I guess I have a lot of reading to do.
