Get ready for Iron City's new heroine, the badass teenage cyborg battle angel Alita.
Alita: Battle Angel is a cyberpunk action film based on Yukito Kishiro’s manga series, Gunnm. It is directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis. It stars Rosa Salazar (Alita), Christopher Waltz (Dr. Dyson Ido), Jennifer Connelly (Chiren), Mahershala Ali (Vector), Ed Skrein (Zapan), Jackie Earle Haley (Grewishka), and Keean Johnson (Hugo). It was distributed by 20th Century Fox.

After being discovered, rebuilt, and renamed by Dr. Dyson Ido, Alita, a female cyborg, awoken in year 2563 with no recollection of who she was. As she encounters threats around the city and battling cyborg villains, she gradually learns more about herself and her true purpose.
I haven’t read the manga nor watched the anime adaptation, so I wasn’t fully aware what to expect from this movie, what the plot was about, or how the story would flow. But after seeing it, I found out that it wasn't hard to enjoy, and that it delivered that anime feeling that other live adaptations lacked. It also gave a good story-telling experience and fantastic animation. And the film didn't seem to steer far from the source material and is one of the best live adaptation of a manga/anime.
Despite having a huge pair of eyes, Alita's facial design was weirdly adorable to look at. Her CGI face, as well as the other cyborgs' CGI faces, seemed pretty decent looking. I just don't get why they gave her huge anime eyes when everyone else, both cyborgs and human, have normal size eyes.
Alita is a new heroine that kids, especially the girls, can look up to, as the film didn't just properly show her fighting prowess but her kind and helpful personality as well. And Salazar's superb performance gave life to the character.
I would like to add that in a way she's similar to Wonder Woman. Both heroine discovered a world that was somewhat new to them. Both had a kind and caring nature, and are formidable warriors dedicated to facing and fighting a mastermind villain. And both felt love and lost.

The action scenes were amazing. The motorball and the fight scenes were thrilling to watch. It was easy to keep up on what was going on and to see who was hitting who. The fights might not have blood splashing all over the place but robot limbs being cut and scattered around, excellent choreography, and cool special effects truly made up for it.
Everyone on the cast did a great job, but for me, the actors who delivered the most noteworthy performances were Waltz and Ali, with Ali having to act as both Vector and Nova.
Probably the biggest surprise in the movie was when Nova revealed his face at the end of the movie, and audience found out that he was being played by Edward Norton. Something to tease the viewers as I am looking forward how Norton's performance as Nova will be in the sequel.

Alita: Battle Angel is definitely a good movie for those who appreciates some sci-fi action. Great cast and thrilling fight scenes. It made me become interested in its anime and manga versions, and be waiting for a sequel.
Rating: 9/10
