It’s the first day of classes
for our last semester in college today, and there is a super typhoon making its
way through Philippines, Typhoon Yolanda. It’s a signal no. 2 and all levels
from pre-school to high school plus some universities and colleges are already
suspended, but not our school. Not University of Santo Tomas.
UST has a bad habit of not announcing any suspension until it is already raining really heavy or even flooding. Yeah! Our school is a bit of a stubborn type. This usually results to students and employees being stranded inside the school campus. And yes, I already experienced being stranded inside our school, and receiving a suspension that was just been announced right after I got off the jeepney. This mostly affect the AM students or those students who have classes in the morning, because unlike the MID or PM students, they are the ones who usually are having dilemmas if they are going to school while waiting for some suspensions.
I’ve been an AM student for two years (first and second years) and became a MID student on my third year until my senior year’s first semester, so I know what morning students are feeling and experiencing. And now that I’m back to AM schedule in our last semester in college life, dilemmas struck again. With the knowledge of how strong the super typhoon is and the fact that our school still haven’t announce any suspension yet, I was in a situation to decide whether to challenge the storm or just stay safe at home.
Now, the UST had announced that there will be a suspension but it will be on from 12nn onwards. The rain is still falling. Some of my block mates have decided not to go to school today. And here I am drinking my morning coffee, blogging. So for the people, who need to travel through the storm, take care.
And please pray for the safety of everyone especially those who are mostly affected by Typhoon Yolanda.
Good morning!
