I'm Feeling the Mania

Fall Out Boy had just released a new studio album, and I think I can feel the Mania flowing through my system.

Mania is Fall Out Boy’s seventh studio album. It was released on January 19, 2018 by Island Records and DCD2.

With this album, Fall Out Boy ventures on a different style of music by mixing pop rock with electropop to cater a new taste to the fans. This just keeps on showing how flexible the band is, in terms of the genre they choose, as their music constantly evolves.

The first single they released was Young and Menace on April 27, 2017. Upon hearing it, I immediately got hooked on the song. It gives me that feeling like I am floating right above the clouds every time I listen to it. Champion on the other hand, makes me feel like I can take on anything, that there is a power inside of me which will help me capture the goals I truly desire if I just believe in myself. It’s a true motivational song that we can use as a substitute to the 80’s classic rock single, Eye of the Tiger, by the American band, Survivor.

I can get into the lyrics so easily, they’re pretty much relatable that I often think to myself that these songs were already a part of me before I even heard of them. It’s as if FOB turned my story into songs. The lyrics struck me deeply, with lines such as, “If I can get my shit together, I would run away and never see any of you again” from Wilson, and ”I just can’t pretend, we were lovers first, confidants but never friends, were we ever friends?” from Hold Me Tight or Don’t. I consider this album’s lyrics as amazing pieces of poetry, with its intricateness and emotional narration.

Right now, this is my favorite set of songs. I just enjoy the vibe that it delivers to me, plus Mania has also become my default workout playlist. It helps me get pumped up, most specifically, the song Champion.

I can’t wait for the next time they hit their concert tour right here in Manila, but for now, I’ll just grab my bass and try to play the songs while listening to the band.
